We traded in the bikes for the car this weekend and headed out to Boundary Bay for a morning session at the beach. If you look at Boundary Bay on Google Maps, you can see how connected it is to the southern Gulf Islands like Salt Spring and Galiano—super wild feeling, loads of grasses and sun bleached logs. I have to say the fish and chips on offer put the West Side beaches to shame, well worth the trip.

Bike Route to Trout Lake
Rode our bikes up to the Trout Lake Farmers Market this morning. Check the neighbourhood book exchange found on the Woodland Bike Route. So many good things happening in East Van including the free Bike Valet. Charlotte ate 5 local bio-dynamic Apricots in as many minutes.
UBC Farm
Caught the morning sun up at UBC Farm today. Such a beautiful place to buy veg! You really can hear yourself think up there.
Maker Faire
Dropped by the Vancouver edition of Maker Faire this morning. Charlotte was keen to support her Aunt Fiona and Gen Why Media. It was a cross between a science fair and burning man. I think Charlotte got the most out of Gen Why’s artists speakers (until she started making pig noises which is when we decided to make a move…)
Saddle Up
So far, this May long weekend has been spent on the bikes. Charlotte is loving her new seat. Here she is wearing her Newt Suit in case the skies decided to open. We managed to hit the sea wall at Science World, a few playgrounds along the water in Yaletown then a direct line into Stanley Park. So much fresh air and things to see.
Off to the Gym
Charlotte has been spending some time working out at the new Creekside Community Centre at the Olympic Village. Despite all of the controversy surrounding the Olympic Village, the experience is good. Great accessibility and water access. Everyone down there is on a bike, on a run or getting into a kayak.
Little Birder
We got up early Friday and headed south to the Reifel Bird Sanctuary. It’s easy to forget how beautiful it is out there especially this time of year. The birds were busy and Charlotte loved it.
